Phillip Island House
Newhaven
2005

A development project for a builder, this small house on a modest site in Newhaven, a fishing and boating suburb at the entry point to Phillip Island, is a subtle shift from the fishing shanties and newer, porthole windowed, curved roof ‘nautical feel’ holiday homes which make up the current housing fabric.

A simplified plan of an orthogonal, 2 storey module connected to a single height garage box makes for economical construction while limited street glazing, the use of contextual weatherboards, plywood cladding, timber battens and coloured perspex provides an inexpensive foil to an otherwise uncomplicated building.
